My 5 Favourite Dairy-Free Treat Recipes
Here’s a recipe round-up of some of my favourite Dairy-Free Treats!
When my son Jax was a couple of months old, we found out that he had a cows milk protein allergy. There was a lot of crying and explosive diarrhea in those first few weeks (him, not me!) Thank goodness I had such good health visitors who were so helpful in the beginning!

Anyway, as I was breastfeeding, it meant no dairy for either of us. It was quite daunting starting out on a dairy-free diet. I was so surprised at how many things contain dairy! Especially when it comes to sweet things, they always contain milk or butter in some form.
This was a bit of a problem for me as I LOVE sweet things. I love chocolate, biscuits, pastries, ice cream, all of it. So, I took to Pinterest in search of some recipes for dairy-free treats and found a whole bunch to try out. When Jax’s first birthday came up I especially needed some ideas. A friend of ours has kids that are also dairy-free. I wanted to make sure no one missed out at a party!
So for anyone looking for some tried and tested dairy-free treat recipes, here’s a list of five of my favourites:
I love cookies and also went through a phase of just wanting to eat cookie dough. These were perfect for that!
Also, I did them a little differently and instead of adding chocolate chips, I put peanut butter and jam in the middle! I did this by flattening the dough out as much as I could and then spooning a small amount of each in to the middle. Then I closed the dough up around the filling as best I could. So good!
2. Coconut Oil Rice Crispy Treats
These are so simple to make it’s ridiculous! I love the flavour that coconut oil adds to things so I think that it definitely improves the taste for me. They also feel nostalgic, something about them just screams childhood.
3. Chocolate Coconut Flapjacks
I once had a dairy-free flapjack at a restaurant once and I loved it so much, I went in search of a recipe like it! I then found this, and I was so excited. These taste amazing!
4. Chocolate cake
Chocolate cake isn’t my favourite thing, but I needed a recipe for a cake for a friend of mine who is vegan. This cake is very moist which is always good! I even cheated with this one and put Betty Crocker chocolate icing on the top to make it a little quicker! (Also does putting avocado in it make it healthy? No?)
5. Dairy-Free Pancakes
I found it quite hard to find a good dairy free american pancake recipe, but luckily most recipes are really easy to adapt. I adapted this one from BBC Good Food.
I swapped out the milk for oat milk, but you can use any milk alternative that you like. Then instead of the butter I just melted coconut oil instead and it works beautifully. Then all you need is the bacon and maple syrup and you have the best pancakes ever!
Do you have any recipes that you’ve tried and loved? I would love to know.
